Fighting plagiarism with Turnitin software

About:

This workshop introduces faculty to the Turnitin software and provides them with the ability and the knowledge of how to make use of this software to fight plagiarism. It covers the following topics:  An overview of Turnitin, the importance of Turnitin, creating a faculty account on Turnitin, creating a classroom account on Turnitin, and using Turnitin to interpret reports.

Using Clickers in the classroom

About:

This workshop introduces faculty to the use of clickers in the classroom. It covers the following topics: possible uses of Clickers, motivational and learning-based strategies while using Clickers, advantages of using Clickers, types of Clickers’ questions, writing Clickers’ questions, and features of the i-Clicker software.

About:

The workshop introduces faculty to the latest research and techniques related to information security including computer system security, network security, and web security. It covers the following topics: Applied cryptography, computer system security, network security, anomaly detection, software security, digital forensics, web security and authentication technology. 

SPSS

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of SPSS.  It covers the following topics: definition of SPSS, the use of SPSS for quantitative data analysis, and the interpretation of outcomes.

Mentoring Graduate Assistants

About:

This workshop introduces participants to their role in mentoring graduate assistants. It covers the following topics: the role of a mentor, general guidelines for mentors, and the development of professional relationships with the graduate assistants. 

nVivo

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of nVivo.  It covers the following topics: definition of nVivo, the use of nVivo for qualitative data analysis, and the interpretation of outcomes.

Syllabus Preparation (do’s and don’ts)

About:

This workshop helps faculty develop their course syllabus and provides them with essential criteria needed to revise their syllabi. It covers the following topics:  exploration of syllabi samples from the different schools, principles of good syllabi construction, and the development of a syllabus. 

Incorporating critical thinking in the classroom

About:

This workshop provides participants with an overview of critical thinking. It covers the following topics: the definition of critical thinking, the characteristics of critical thinking, and the assessment of students’ critical thinking skills. 

Using Lecture Capture

About:

This workshop introduces faculty to the use of lecture capture, helps them to create recordings of classroom lectures or presentations for the purpose of sharing them with students. It covers the following topics: the definition of lecture capture, the effective implementation of the software to improve the teaching learning process.

This workshop introduces faculty to the use of Excel spreadsheets to manage grades. It covers the following topics: the grade book basics, the use of excel functions, and the proper formatting of the data.

This workshop introduces participants to the STEAM approach to teaching and learning. It covers the following topics: the definition of STEAM, the characteristics and components of STEAM (interdisciplinarity, problem-based, applied approach, etc.)

This workshop introduces faculty to writing effective learning objectives and outcomes. It covers the following topics: definitions, purposes, and characteristics of learning objectives and outcomes, the action verbs used in writing objectives and outcomes, and the different domains of learning objectives and outcomes among others.
